The Vietnam International Defense Exhibition opens today, with countries like the US and Russia showcasing their weapons.

According to CCTV news reports, on the morning of December 19 local time, the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 opened in Hanoi and will last until the 22nd, with the theme "Peace, Friendship, Cooperation." This defense exhibition coincides with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of Vietnam's National Defense Day.

The 2024 Vietnam International Defense Exhibition will be held from December 19 to 22 at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.

Reports indicate that delegations from 27 countries, including China, the United States, Russia, France, India, Israel, Iran, and Turkey, are participating in the exhibition, with a total exhibition area exceeding 100,000 square meters.

According to Vietnamese media, this year's exhibition has an indoor display area of 15,000 square meters and an outdoor exhibition area of over 20,000 square meters, with nearly 250 exhibitors. Vietnam will showcase defense products developed and manufactured by various agencies and units of the Ministry of National Defense.

According to Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam will showcase the TP-150 aircraft at this defense exhibition, which is the first aircraft manufactured by a Vietnamese company. It serves as both a primary training and patrol aircraft for training military pilots and can also be used in civil aviation. The aircraft was designed by Italian engineers, with the engine, propeller, and electronic equipment sourced from Western countries, while the remaining fuselage structure, wings, landing gear, and accessories are entirely manufactured and assembled at the "Vietnam Flying Legend" factory.

The aircraft can fly continuously for 6.5 hours at nearly 300 kilometers per hour (with auxiliary fuel tanks) and can perform complex aerobatics and formation flying. When equipped with additional devices such as infrared optical cameras (EO/IR) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR), the aircraft can carry out border patrol or coastal surveillance missions.

According to media reports from the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, the state-owned defense company Viettel and other local companies will showcase missile defense systems, drones, air defense radars, armored vehicles, and artillery at the exhibition.

American defense giants Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Northrop Grumman will also participate, showcasing products including the A-10 attack aircraft, M777 howitzer, and C-130 transport aircraft. It is reported that Lockheed Martin is also discussing a deal for C-130 "Hercules" military transport aircraft.

As a major arms supplier to Vietnam, Russian military industry also showcased several new weapons at the defense exhibition, including new coastal missile systems and drones. Reuters reports that Vietnam is a major arms importer, particularly relying on Russian military equipment. Over the years, amid regional instability, Vietnam has continuously enhanced its defense capabilities, significantly developing its domestic defense industry, and prioritizing military product exports. Officials from the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense have repeatedly stated that exports are a key focus of their development.

Several important European defense companies also participated in the exhibition, including aerospace giant Airbus, UK's BAE Systems, Germany's Rheinmetall, Italy's Leonardo, and France's Thales Group.
